VOCAL – RULES & REGULATIONS

1.  Please read the General Rules and Regulations. 

2.  Competitors MUST supply their own accompanist. The festival DOES NOT provide competitors with an official accompanist.

3.  a) Competitors wishing to be considered for recommendations to the Provincial Festival Competitions in:

  A) Classical Voice - must enter one of the following new provincial classes:
 Junior Level: Class 86. Intermediate: Class 87. Senior: Class 88. 

B) Musical Theatre - must enter one of the following new provincial classes:
 
Junior Level: Class 142.  Intermediate: Class 143.  Senior: Class 144  

  b) Competitors wishing to be considered for recommendations to the Provincial Excellence Class in:

A) Classical Voice - must enter Class 88. 

B) Musical Theatre - must enter Class 144.

  c) At the close of competition, the Adjudicator may recommend one student to represent CDMF at Provincials in Provincial
Competition AND one or more students in the Provincial Excellence Class for each discipline, Classical Voice and Musical Theatre.
 Competitors in the Provincials in the Provincial Excellence Class will be expected to perform at a very high level,generally higher
than that required for recommendation to the Senior Provincial class.

  d) In order to be considered for recommendation by the adjudicators, a competitor must have received a mark of 85 or over in
these classes.

     e) Please refer to the Provincial Syllabus at www.bcprovincials.com for details of the Provincial Excellence classes, including age limits,
time limits and selection requirements.

4.  Each competitor must submit two (2) original scores, of the music he/she plans to perform, to the adjudicator’s secretary prior to the start of the class.As an aid to the adjudicator, competitors MUST number the first bar of each line in their score.

5.  All copyrights regarding music MUST be observed. Photocopies or manual copies of copyrighted material will not be accepted. The exception to this is as follows:

Note:  In order to facilitate page turns, the accompanist can use photocopied material providing the original score is on the piano. Downloaded material will be accepted along with proof of purchase

6.  If original scores are not available, a letter is required from the publisher giving permission for copying. If the selection is generally considered to be in the public domain, a letter confirming this FACT is required from the publisher along with permission to copy.

Competitors attempting to use unauthorized copies of copyrighted material WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

7.  In “Own Selection” for Vocal: the Title, Composer, Grade Level AND Performance Time MUST be specified on the entry form.

PLEASE NOTE:  NO CHANGES WILL BE ALLOWED AFTER THE ENTRY DEADLINE. IF THERE IS NO SELECTION SHOWN ON THE ENTRY FORM, THE ADJUDICATOR WILL APPLY A 5 MARK DEDUCTION ON AJUDICATION.

Competitors MUST bring original scores (NO PHOTOCOPIES) to the session secretary PRIOR to performing AND MUST claim them after the class has been adjudicated.

8.  ENTRY FORMS – All VOCAL entries, Solo and/or Group, MUST be submitted on the Vocal Entry Form.

9.  Time Limits: Maximum time limits are given for some classes. Please note that it is NOT necessary to fill the allotted time limit. Competitors who run overtime WILL be stopped and will only receive an adjudication and will not receive a mark or be placed.

10. Dress Code: Competitors are encouraged to dress appropriately to neither offend nor distract the adjudicator, performers or audience.

11. Marking: See #42 in General Rules & Regulations (page 10).
